Light Conversion Expands into Silicon Valley with New Applications Laboratory
Light Conversion is expanding its operations in the United States and establishing a presence in Silicon Valley – one of the world’s foremost technology hubs. In 2025, the company opened a new laser processing applications laboratory in Sunnyvale, California – a step forward in deepening its engagement with U.S. industry and academia.
With over 2,000 ultrafast laser systems installed across the U.S., Light Conversion is trusted by many of the country’s leading institutions and manufacturers. The company’s lasers are used in top-tier Ivy League universities – including Harvard, Yale, Columbia, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The United States remains one of the company’s largest and most strategically important export markets, where its systems are valued by both academic researchers and manufacturers of medical components and consumer electronics.
Recognizing the need for local support and long-term collaboration, Light Conversion established its U.S. subsidiary, Light Conversion-USA, in Bozeman, Montana, in 2006. This office has served as the company’s regional sales and support center for nearly two decades. The new Sunnyvale facility complements this foundation with a focus on industrial applications and customer-driven research.
The applications laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art laser systems with dedicated beam and sample positioning equipment. Its mission is to test and refine laser-based micromachining techniques on a wide range of materials – directly responding to the needs of industrial customers. By providing hands-on access to real-world applications and facilitating collaborative testing, the laboratory aims to support customers in overcoming manufacturing challenges and accelerating innovation.
The new laboratory was officially inaugurated by Lithuania’s Minister of the Economy and Innovation, Lukas Savickas. During his visit, the Minister met with the representatives of Light Conversion-USA to discuss the company’s ongoing expansion in the U.S. and explore opportunities for stronger collaboration with local industry partners. The visit underscored the importance of innovation-driven business ties between Lithuania and the United States, with a shared goal of boosting competitiveness on both sides of the Atlantic.
